Damn Drunks!

So MADD [mother's against drunk driving] came to my school today for a presentation
and it was amazing, it was actually one presentation where I didn't become bored or
stop listening I think it may have actually effected me some way because I don't have the
urge to drink anymore. So this is me officially quitting drinking until I'm at a legal age
to drink. They told us some nerve racking stories for example. One couple were engaged
and about to go buy a new home together and the next day the girlfriend went to go sign
the papers and she was hit by a drunk driver about ten minutes away from her apartment
with her boyfriend, she died on the spot and he still hasn't moved on it happened in 2004.
Then one guy he was eighteen (Chris), and he and some friends went a party they were always
responsible making arrangements before going out and the guy who was supposed to
pick him and his friends up bailed on them last minute due to him being tired, so he was
looking for someone to drive him home, one guy offered saying he didn't drink that night
so they got into the car with him and he hit a semi truck killing Chris and his two friends
injured, the driver went to jail, his parents had a really tough time with this due to them
having to identify his body in a yellow body bag, his parents have to live with that image
for the rest of their life, this was in 2006. One that really got me to cry was this boy
Jimmy he was eighteen and he was very well liked at school he had no enemies only friends,
one night he and his girlfriend and a few friends decided to go out to a party and he does
drink but he does the smart thing not to drink and drive, so he decided to walk home because
he lived about fifteen minutes away from the party as he was walking through a marked
cross-walk he was hit by a drunk driver, Jimmy died alone as the driver drove off not stopping
nor calling 911.
Now tell me how can someone kill an innocent person by making one stupid desision completely
preventable! Some of these drivers kill new born babies to elders this problem is becoming
pathetic, they say four! people everyday in Canada are killed by drinking and driving. Either
they are the victim of this or they are the cause. Drugs do the same thing to your judgment as
does alcohol you may feel fine but your really not, your reflexes, distance perspective, vision,
speed perspective everything is just off you need time to sober up, coffee, lemon juice and taking
a quick ten minute nap and such don't speed the process of sobering up. So don't drink and drive!
